Offices and server rooms
IT equipment movers in Calgary
Top Quality Movers Ltd. are IT equipment movers in Calgary for offices, server rooms and data centre tenants. Your IT team disconnects the equipment and takes it out of the racks. We pack and crate it, haul it on air-ride trucks and place each piece where your labels say. Our crews are background-checked, and we agree the coverage for your equipment before the move.

What we move
What our IT equipment movers in Calgary move
Computers and desk equipment:
computers, monitors, printers and phones. As computer movers for Calgary offices, we move them with the rest of the office or as a job of their own.
Servers, storage and network equipment,
once your IT team has taken them out of the racks.

Racks and cabinets.
A cabinet travels with equipment inside only when it's built to travel loaded. Otherwise your IT team takes the equipment out first and the cabinet travels empty.
Crated equipment.
We've moved crated equipment many times for a Calgary manufacturer of data-centre cooling systems.
Heavy units.
An electric pallet jack and a tailgate rated for 2,500 lb per lift handle heavy cabinets and palletized equipment.
Moving the whole office? Our commercial movers page covers the desks, files and furniture.
Two halves of the move
Who does what: your IT team and our crew
An IT move has two halves, and we handle the physical one. IT relocation services firms do the technology side; a mover does the rest.
| Your IT team or provider | Our crew |
|---|---|
| Backs up data and powers equipment down | Brings crates, padding and anti-static materials |
| Labels each device and its cables | Packs and crates each piece |
| Disconnects and takes equipment out of the racks | Loads, hauls and unloads |
| Reconnects, racks and tests at the new site | Places each piece at its labelled spot and takes the packing away |
If you run an IT services company, we can be the moving crew on your relocation projects. Your team works on the technology to your plan, and ours moves the equipment on your schedule.
On the road
How we protect equipment on the road
- Air-ride suspension, which softens the bumps between one site and the next.
- Anti-static materials for drives, boards and anything else sensitive to static.
- Crates and padding. Equipment that arrives crated stays crated, and we crate what needs it.
- Your labels guide every step. We load, unload and place each piece by them, so it goes to the room or row its label names.
- Background-checked crews. The people handling your equipment have been checked before they set foot on your site.
Cold weather
Winter moves and temperature
Cold is the other risk in a Calgary winter. Our temperature-controlled truck keeps a load warm, and its GPS temperature logging gives you a trip report with the recorded temperatures and times. It's available subject to scheduling, so tell us about the load before you book. The same truck carries temperature-controlled freight for our transport customers.
Cold equipment still needs time before it's switched on. ASHRAE, which publishes thermal guidelines for data centres, advises 24 to 48 hours of acclimation for IT equipment shipped in winter, with its packaging left on. Plan the reconnection with that in mind.
Facility rules
Moving into or out of a data centre
For a server relocation or a data centre relocation, the crew needs to know the facility's rules before it arrives. Here is what facilities commonly ask of a mover, and how we'd handle it:
Insurance first.
Facilities usually want the mover's certificate of insurance before deliveries arrive. We send ours, naming the facility, to site management ahead of the move.
The dock booking.
You book the loading dock slot, and we plan the crew's arrival around it.
Loading at the dock.
If the facility's staff don't load or unload trucks, our crew moves the equipment between the truck and the dock.
Access and ID.
Send us the facility's access rules. We'll send you our crew's names for the access list, bring photo ID and stay with the escort.
Packing off the floor.
If the facility keeps cardboard and wooden pallets off the data hall floor, we unpack where it allows and take the packing away with us.
The site's own rules.
If the facility has work rules or asks for a step-by-step plan, we follow them, and we take care of any orientation the site requires.
High-value equipment
Coverage for high-value equipment
IT equipment is worth far more than it weighs. Our standard contract values goods at $1.00 per pound per item, which would cover a 60 lb server for $60. That's a valuation, not replacement-value insurance, and it isn't enough for most IT moves.
For IT equipment, we agree the coverage in writing before the move, and we raise our cargo limits when the value of the job calls for it. We're fully insured and bonded, with $5 million in general liability coverage, and our crew is covered by WCB. Our insurance and safety page explains how coverage and claims work.
Hourly rates
How our IT equipment movers in Calgary price the job
IT moves in and around Calgary are billed by the hour, on the same terms as our other local moves:
Local moving rate
$150 an hour for two movers and a 26-foot truck
a 3-hour minimum
- a 1-hour truck and travel charge inside Calgary
- $50 an hour for each extra mover or truck
- plus GST, and evening and weekend moves cost the same as weekdays
How we size the job
When a job needs crates or extra coverage, we include them in your quote. Our moving rates, with the conditions that go with them, are on our page of Calgary movers' rates.
When we follow up, tell us:
- What's moving, roughly how much, and what arrives already crated
- The weight and size of heavy cabinets or palletized equipment
- Each site's rules for docks, access and move times
- What the equipment is worth, so we can agree the coverage
- Whether the move should run after hours
Protection included
Equipment travels in moving blankets and padding, with anti-static materials for drives, boards and anything else sensitive to static, and floor runners go down at both sites.
Additional services
Ask for any of these on our quote form or when we follow up.
What changes the final cost
The final cost is set by the time the job takes. These are what usually add to it:
Crating.
Equipment that needs a crate adds packing time and the crate itself, and both go into your quote.
Coverage.
When the equipment is worth more than the standard valuation covers, the coverage we agree in writing goes into your quote.
Site rules.
Dock bookings, escorts, ID checks and a facility's work rules can add time at either end of the move.
Heavy units.
Heavy cabinets and palletized equipment can need the electric pallet jack, the tailgate or a bigger crew. Tell us their weights when we follow up.
Distance.
Towns around Calgary are charged the round-trip drive from our Calgary base, and long-distance moves add the drive both ways and a fuel surcharge.
Volume and packing.
How much is moving, and how much of it we pack, sets the hours more than anything else.
A reply the way you prefer
Send us the basics through our quote form, and a member of our team follows up by phone, text or email, whichever you prefer.
How it works
Planning an IT move with us
- Tell us the basics through our quote form: the addresses, the date, what's moving and roughly how much, and any rules at either site.
- We follow up by phone, text or email, whichever you prefer, and book a free walkthrough when your space in Calgary needs one. After a visit, your quote usually follows within 24 hours.
- We agree the plan with your IT team: the order things move, the labels, the timing and whether the move runs after hours.
- We send the paperwork ahead: a certificate of insurance and a WCB clearance letter for each building or facility.
- Moving day. Our crew packs, moves and places everything in the order we agreed, and speaks English and Spanish.

Frequently asked questions
Your equipment
Disconnecting, racks and cabinets.
Do you disconnect and reconnect our servers?
No. Your IT team or provider disconnects the equipment, takes it out of the racks and reconnects it at the new site. We work to their plan and labels, and we handle the packing, crating, hauling and placing.
Can you move a server rack with the equipment still inside?
Only if the cabinet is built to travel loaded, with heavy-duty shock packaging. Otherwise your IT team takes the equipment out first, we pack it separately, and the cabinet travels empty.
Working with us
Insurance, hours and IT partners.
Can you provide a certificate of insurance for a data centre?
Yes. We carry $5 million in general liability insurance and can provide a certificate naming the facility. We send it to site management before the move.
Do you move IT equipment after hours or on weekends?
Yes, and evening and weekend moves cost the same as weekday moves. Office moves usually run after hours, so your team can work until the day ends.
We're an IT services company. Can you be our moving crew?
Yes. Your team handles the technology and ours handles the physical move, on your project plan and your schedule.
