Three corridors

Where our long-distance movers in Calgary go

Our long-distance moves stay within three provinces: Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The trips we run follow three corridors out of Calgary:

  • West into BC:

    Golden, Revelstoke, Kelowna and Vancouver.

  • North:

    Edmonton.

  • East:

    Regina and Saskatoon.

We run them in both directions, out of Calgary and into it. We've been moving people from our Calgary base since 2021, and we're fully insured and bonded. We don't take moves across Canada: if your move starts or ends outside these three provinces, we're not the right mover for it.

For a move to or from BC or Saskatchewan, see our interprovincial movers page.

Both directions

Routes we run

Moving from Alberta to BC

Moving from Alberta to BC means crossing the Rockies. Calgary to Kelowna is about 600 km and Calgary to Vancouver about 970 km, over several mountain passes on the way. That drive time is part of what a BC move costs, so we go through the route and the schedule with you before you book.

Golden and Revelstoke sit on the same road west, and we run to both. For the two largest BC destinations, see our Calgary to Kelowna movers and Calgary to Vancouver movers pages.

Hourly rates

How our long-distance movers in Calgary price a trip

A long-distance move is billed the same way as a local move, plus the road:

Same rate as every move

Hours on the job:

loading and unloading at our hourly rate,

$150 an hour

for two movers and a 26-foot truck with a 3-hour minimum,

  • plus $50 an hour for each extra mover or truck.
  • Drive time, both ways: the drive is billed at the same hourly rate, there and back.
  • Fuel surcharge: worked out for each trip from the distance, the fuel the truck uses and the price of fuel. It covers our cost and nothing more: we don't make money on fuel.
  • Crew hotel and meals: when a trip needs an overnight stop, they're added to your estimate, so you see them before you book.
  • Plus GST.

How we quote the trip

Because the distance, the size of the move and the fuel price all change from trip to trip, every long-distance move is quoted on its own. Longer trips can run over more than one day, and we'll go through the schedule with you before you book. Our local rates and their conditions are on our page of Calgary movers' rates.

When we follow up, tell us:

  • Both addresses, and the date you'd like to move
  • How flexible your dates are, especially in winter
  • The size of your home and what's moving
  • Stairs, elevators or a long carry at either end
  • Whether you'd like packing, bins or storage

Protection included

Furniture is wrapped in moving blankets and shrink wrap before it goes on the truck, and floor runners go down in both homes. The materials are included at no charge.

Additional services

  • Packing
  • Unpacking
  • Plastic bins
  • Storage

Ask for any of these on our quote form or when we follow up.

What changes the final cost

The final cost is set by the time the job takes. These are what usually add to it:

  • Access at both ends.

Elevators, restricted parking and a long carry between the truck and the door add time, at either home.

  • Stairs.

Carrying up and down stairs, or out of a basement, takes longer. Tell us about every flight, at both homes.

  • Furniture and doors.

Furniture that was meant to be taken apart before we arrived but wasn't, and items that need a door taken off, add time.

  • The distance.

The drive is billed at the hourly rate in both directions, so the farther the trip, the more drive time in the quote.

  • Fuel prices.

The fuel surcharge is worked out for each trip from the price of fuel, so it rises and falls with it.

  • Volume and packing.

How much you own sets the hours to load and unload. Packing time goes into your quote when you ask for it, and plastic bins are charged separately.

What the rate covers

What's included

Here's what comes with the hourly rate on a long-distance move and what doesn't, so you know before you book.

In the rate

  • One crew, start to finish.

The movers who load your home drive the truck and unload it at the other end.

  • A truck for your move only.

Your 26-foot truck carries your things and no one else's.

  • Furniture protection.

Moving blankets, shrink wrap and general furniture protection. The materials are included at no charge.

  • Floor protection.

Floor runners along the path in and out of your home, included at no charge.

  • Mattress protection.

A heavy-duty mattress bag for every mattress, included at no charge.

  • Furniture taken apart.

When a bed or table has to come apart to move, taking it apart and putting it back together is part of the move's time.

  • Boxes placed by room.

Label each box by room, and we carry it to that room at your new home.

Not included

Plan for these before you book.

  • Fuel, billed at cost for your trip
  • The crew's hotel and meals, when the trip needs an overnight stop
  • Packing and unpacking, unless you ask for them
  • Taking apart treadmills and other gym machines
  • Moving pianos and safes, which need a specialist mover

Moving to Calgary

Moving to Calgary from another city

Some people moving to Calgary would rather hire a Calgary mover, and that works well for us: our crew drives out from Calgary to your old home, loads it, and finishes the move unloading at your new home in Calgary. On a shorter trip, like Edmonton to Calgary, that means starting early at your old home. The drive out is billed the same way as any drive, at the hourly rate, and we show you how the trip adds up before you book.

Before you leave

Packing and storage for a long move

  • Packing:

we can pack your home before the trip and unpack at the other end. See our packing services.

Plates and kitchen items wrapped one by one in packing paper and packed upright in a box
  • Plastic bins:

moving out of Calgary? You can buy our reusable plastic bins at $15 each plus GST, instead of using cardboard.

Four black plastic moving bins with yellow lids stacked in the corner of a kitchen
  • Storage:

if your new home isn't ready when you leave, we arrange storage and handle both moves.

How it works

What to expect

Here's how a long-distance move with us usually runs, from your quote to your new home.

  1. Send us the basics. Our quote form asks where you're moving from and to, your dates and the size of your home.
  2. We follow up. By phone, text or email, whichever you prefer, we go through the route, the dates and what you're moving. Every quote is free, and so is the in-person visit when your home in Calgary needs one. For a home outside Calgary, we price the move with you without a visit.
  3. You get your quote. It shows how the trip adds up: the hours, the drive both ways, fuel, any overnight costs and GST. It also gives you the timeline for your move, and we agree the loading and delivery dates with you.
  4. Loading day. We confirm the crew's arrival time before moving day. The crew protects your floors, wraps the furniture, takes apart what has to come apart and loads the truck. A large home, or one we're also packing, can take more than a day to load.
  5. On the road. The truck usually leaves the day it's loaded or the next day, driven by the crew that loaded it and tracked by GPS 24/7. On many routes, your things can arrive as early as the day after loading. For Vancouver, delivery can usually be scheduled one to two days after loading, depending on road conditions.
  6. Delivery. The same crew unloads at your new home and puts furniture and boxes in the rooms you choose. Anything we took apart is put back together before we leave.

Frequently asked questions

Routes and price

Where we go, fuel and the drive back.

Do you move across Canada?

No. Our long-distance moves stay within Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, in both directions.

How is the fuel surcharge worked out?

For each trip, from the distance, the fuel the truck uses and the price of fuel at the time. It covers our fuel cost only.

Do you charge for the drive back?

Yes. Drive time is billed at the hourly rate both ways, and we explain that when we follow up, so you know how your quote is built.

Storage and booking

Storage between homes, and how far ahead to book.

Can you store our things between homes?

Yes. We arrange storage and handle both moves: into storage, and out to your new home.

How far ahead should we book a long-distance move?

Many of our customers book about a month ahead, especially for moves at the end of the month. Earlier is better if your date is fixed.
