The route
The route west
Moving from Calgary to Vancouver is a drive of about 970 km, west on the Trans-Canada through Golden and Revelstoke and on to the coast, over several mountain passes on the way. In winter, conditions on the mountain highways can change quickly, so some flexibility on your dates helps if you have it.
Hourly rates
Calgary to Vancouver: how our movers price the trip
The trip is billed like a local move, plus the road:
Same rate as every move
Hours on the job:
loading and unloading at
$150 an hour
for two movers and a 26-foot truck, with a 3-hour minimum,
- plus $50 an hour for each extra mover or truck.
- Drive time, both ways: the drive is billed at the same hourly rate, there and back.
- Fuel surcharge: worked out for this trip from the distance, the fuel the truck uses and the price of fuel. It covers our cost only.
- Plus GST.
How we quote the trip
The size of your move and the price of fuel change the total, so every trip to Vancouver is quoted on its own. A trip this long can run over more than one day, and we go through the schedule with you before you book. Our moving rates, with the conditions that go with them, are on our page of Calgary movers' rates.
When we follow up, tell us:
- Both addresses, and the date you'd like to move
- How flexible your dates are, especially in winter
- The size of your home and what's moving
- Stairs, elevators or a long carry at either end
- Whether you'd like packing, bins or storage
Protection included
Furniture is wrapped in moving blankets and shrink wrap before it goes on the truck, and floor runners go down in both homes. The materials are included at no charge.
Additional services
Ask for any of these on our quote form or when we follow up.
What changes the final cost
The final cost is set by the time the job takes. These are what usually add to it:
Access at both ends.
Elevators, restricted parking and a long carry between the truck and the door add time, at either home.
Stairs.
Carrying up and down stairs, or out of a basement, takes longer. Tell us about every flight, at both homes.
Furniture and doors.
Furniture that was meant to be taken apart before we arrived but wasn't, and items that need a door taken off, add time.
The distance.
The drive is billed at the hourly rate in both directions, so the farther the trip, the more drive time in the quote.
Fuel prices.
The fuel surcharge is worked out for each trip from the price of fuel, so it rises and falls with it.
Volume and packing.
How much you own sets the hours to load and unload. Packing time goes into your quote when you ask for it, and plastic bins are charged separately.
A reply the way you prefer
Send us the basics through our quote form, and a member of our team follows up by phone, text or email, whichever you prefer.
Packing and storage
Packing and storage for the move
We can pack your home before the trip and unpack it in Vancouver. You can also buy our reusable plastic bins for the move, at $15 each plus GST, instead of using cardboard. If your new home isn't ready when you leave Calgary, we arrange storage and handle both moves.

Frequently asked questions
Price and the drive
What the move costs, and the drive both ways.
How much does it cost to move from Calgary to Vancouver?
Each trip is quoted on its own: the hours to load and unload at our hourly rate, the drive both ways at the same rate, and fuel at cost, plus GST. How much you're moving and the price of fuel set the total.
How long is the drive?
It's about 970 km each way over the mountains, so plan on at least a full day of driving in each direction.
Do you charge for the drive back?
Yes. Drive time is billed at the hourly rate both ways, and we explain that when we follow up, so you know how your quote is built.
Storage
If your new home isn't ready yet.
Can you store our things until our Vancouver home is ready?
Yes. We arrange storage and handle both moves: into storage, and out to your new home.
