The route
Why a Calgary-based mover
Some people moving to Calgary would rather hire a mover from Calgary, and that suits the way we work: the trip starts and ends at our Calgary base. The drive is about 600 km each way, from the Okanagan north and east through Revelstoke and Golden on the Trans-Canada.
Hourly rates
Kelowna to Calgary: how our movers price the trip
The trip is billed like a local move, plus the road:
Same rate as every move
Hours on the job:
loading and unloading at
$150 an hour
for two movers and a 26-foot truck, with a 3-hour minimum,
- plus $50 an hour for each extra mover or truck.
- Drive time, both ways: the drive out to Kelowna and the drive back are billed at the same hourly rate.
- Fuel surcharge: worked out for this trip from the distance, the fuel the truck uses and the price of fuel. It covers our cost only.
- Plus GST.
How we quote the trip
The size of your move and the price of fuel change the total, so every trip from Kelowna is quoted on its own, and we go through the schedule with you before you book. Our moving rates, with the conditions that go with them, are on our page of Calgary movers' rates.
When we follow up, tell us:
- Both addresses, and the date you'd like to move
- How flexible your dates are, especially in winter
- The size of your home and what's moving
- Stairs, elevators or a long carry at either end
- Whether you'd like packing or storage
Protection included
Furniture is wrapped in moving blankets and shrink wrap before it goes on the truck, and floor runners go down in both homes. The materials are included at no charge.
Additional services
Ask for any of these on our quote form or when we follow up.
What changes the final cost
The final cost is set by the time the job takes. These are what usually add to it:
Access at both ends.
Elevators, restricted parking and a long carry between the truck and the door add time, at either home.
Stairs.
Carrying up and down stairs, or out of a basement, takes longer. Tell us about every flight, at both homes.
Furniture and doors.
Furniture that was meant to be taken apart before we arrived but wasn't, and items that need a door taken off, add time.
The distance.
The drive is billed at the hourly rate in both directions, so the farther the trip, the more drive time in the quote.
Fuel prices.
The fuel surcharge is worked out for each trip from the price of fuel, so it rises and falls with it.
Volume and packing.
How much you own sets the hours to load and unload. Packing time goes into your quote when you ask for it.

Frequently asked questions
Price and the drive
What the move costs, and the drive out.
How much does it cost to move from Kelowna to Calgary?
Each trip is quoted on its own: the hours to load and unload at our hourly rate, the drive both ways at the same rate, and fuel at cost, plus GST. How much you're moving and the price of fuel set the total.
Why is the drive out billed?
Because our crew and truck start in Calgary, the drive to Kelowna is part of the job. Drive time is billed at the hourly rate both ways, and we explain that when we follow up.
Storage and booking
Storage between homes, and how far ahead to book.
Can you store our things until our Calgary home is ready?
Yes. We arrange storage and handle both moves: into storage, and out to your new home.
How far ahead should we book?
Many of our customers book about a month ahead, especially for moves at the end of the month.
